CEI Smart Light Configuration Installation

Run the CEI Smart Light installation executable to install the CEI Smart Light Configuration tool. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the install.

Firmware Upgrade Installation (Optional)

Run the IO-Link NG Firmware Upgrade installation executable to install the boot loader / firmware upgrade software. This software is only required when a firmware upgrade is available.

Note: Some issues have occurred found with USB 3.0 controllers and Windows 7 drivers. If timeouts occur during the firmware upgrade process, please connect through a USB 2.0 hub, then connect the hub to the USB 3.0 port. This should resolve any issue transmission interruption that may be occurring.

Firmware Upgrade (How To)

If a new version of the IO-Link software firmware is provided by Caron Engineering Inc., you can upgrade by using the IO Link NG Firmware Upgrade application (refer to previous section for software installation). The firmware upgrade file is of file type .hex and can be uploaded.

To upgrade the firmware on the IO-Link Controller, start the IOLink NG Firmware Upgrade application. Immediately after starting the application, a dialog appears providing the status of the firmware upgrade. If the IO-Link Controller is not plugged in and powered at the time the software has started, an error message is displayed stating that there is no device connected.

If the controller is connected, select a firmware file to upgrade. Select the firmware file (.hex) and upload it to the device. If any errors occur during the firmware flash, please contact Caron Engineering.

Hardware Setup

To connect to the Caron Engineering Smart Light configuration software:

  1. Plug the female connector of the IO-Link cable into the IOLink port on the Caron Engineering IO-Link Controller
  2. Plug the male connector on the IO-Link cable into the Balluff Smart Light IO-Link port.
  3. The Caron Engineering IO-Link Controller requires 24V power on the device. Wire +24V into C6 (24V) and the reference ground into C6 (0V) on the connector to the left of the board reset pin.
  4. Once the device is powered, plug the USB-B cable into the Caron Engineering IO-Link Controller and the other side into the PC running the Caron Engineering Smart Light software.
  5. Run the Caron Engineering Smart Light software. If the device connected successfully, a “Device Connected” screen will appear.
